About the firm
A small practice, deliberately.
Overview
What the firm does
We provide technology and operations consulting to small and mid-sized businesses — organizations large enough to depend on their systems, but not large enough to keep a full technology department on payroll. The work ranges from a two-week assessment to a multi-month software build, and it is always delivered under a written agreement.
The practice is intentionally small. When an engagement requires a specialist we do not have, we say so and bring in a named subcontractor with the client's approval rather than stretching to cover it.
We also develop and publish our own software. That work keeps the practice current on the platforms we advise clients about, and it means our recommendations come from having shipped and maintained production applications rather than from reading about them.
Principles
How we operate
-
You'll know the scope up front
Every job starts with a written statement of work: what you get, when you get it, what we're assuming, and what it costs. If the scope changes, we write that down too. Neither of us should have to dig through old emails to remember what was agreed.
-
Advice you can act on
When we recommend something, we tell you what it takes to do and what order to do it in. A finding you can't act on isn't worth what you paid for it.
-
You keep everything
Source code, credentials, architecture notes, written procedures — all of it is yours when the work is done. We don't build things that only we can maintain.
-
You talk to the person building it
Whoever scopes your project is the one who does the work. Nothing gets handed off to a junior team once the proposal is signed.
-
We'll tell you if we can't help
If your problem is outside what we're good at, or software you already own can handle it, or it costs more to fix than it's worth — we'll say so in the first conversation.
